Maintain an active and up to date City Website and Social Media platforms.

-The City website often shows information that is out of date and social media, which is controlled directly by the Mayor, is only infrequently updated,

Office hours that work for you.

-The Mayor maintains daytime office hours and wants citizens to meet with him on his terms (see below).

Provide public answers to public questions.

-Citizens asking questions on social media are told to come to the Mayor's office rather than him answering on social media for the benefit of the public.

Make all meeting materials available online for the public and provide Council members with the tools to access and work with them.

-Many contracts, agreements and items of interest included in meeting agendas are not digitized and therefore not made available to the public.  With electronic access the Council would reduce waste and be assured of  having the latest information available at all times.

Share Council meetings through Live streaming and recording for a public archive.

-For years, I provided transparency to the community by airing meetings on cable television.  The City needs to use accessible platforms for live streaming and create an online archive of past meetings.

Work with the Schools to create a “Tag Along Day” for students to learn about City Government and hold a Jr. City Council meeting.

-No such program exists or has been discussed.  I’ve observed such programs in other communities and know how to make it happen.

What Can I Do For You?

Candidate for Mayor of Plano, IL

Institute a performance review process for City workers that includes coaching for improvement and rewards outstanding performance.

-Non-union City employees are given an across the board annual raise regardless of performance.  Requests to the council for additional increases for particular employees come from supervisors in letters or emails.  There is no review process.

Enhance the ability of the public to directly report Public Works issues and ensure a swift follow up and response.

-Elements of this exist but are not widely publicized.  Responses and updates are not automatic.

Shorten the process of correcting nuisance and property violations.

-Improving the image of the City is one of our biggest challenges and effects             economic growth and property values. Although our ordinance calls for 7 days to fix a violation or get another fine, the current system can extend the process over months.

Support our Police and work with the Chief to encourage the use of every available resource and technology to protect and serve the public.

-Our police department is one of our finest assets and deserves the best tools, technology and support to do their job.

Improve operations and lessen financial impact with the scheduled replacement of vehicles and equipment.  Utilize leasing programs to further flatten the curve of expenditures.

-Our Police Department and Public Works are leading the way on this but it needs to become a regular and standard practice wherever possible.

Promote Plano to Manufacturers and Industries.

-While rooftops and retail are important, we need good paying jobs that are accessible to our residents.

Provide a fact-based and professional approach to Retail Development.

-My Committee's work with a professional consultant revealed important positive information about our Retail Trade Area and Demographics--the same information retailers use when choosing where to locate.

Work to revitalize Plano's Downtown.

-We have a City Center plan and Comprehensive Plan that address what we can do to improve our downtown but it is not being done.

Require comparative quotes and enforce competitive bidding.

-Our financial success requires we spend less for the best.  Staff and the Council need to be fully informed to make spending decisions that make the best use of public funds.

Hold the line on taxes.

-Through sound decision making, careful spending, and planned economic growth we can increase our City funds without raising taxes on our residents.
